Today’s figures from the CSO (Central Statistics Office) for overseas visitors to the Republic of Ireland confirm strong growth of +9.3%, for January-September 2014. And figures from NISRA (Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency) for Northern Ireland, also published today, show growth of +5% in overseas visitors and +19% in overseas holidaymakers, for the first half of 2014.
Tourism Ireland has welcomed the CSO and NISRA figures – with the increase in visitor numbers from overseas helping to boost employment.
Niall Gibbons, CEO of Tourism Ireland, said: “This was a strong performance for both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, which very much reflects the sentiment we are hearing from our tourism industry partners overseas and here at home. We have been rolling out an extensive promotional programme throughout 2014, showcasing the island of Ireland around the world to prospective holidaymakers. We are determined to ensure that tourism growth continues. Upcoming promotions, including a significant presence – with almost 70 partners – at World Travel Market in London next month will help to keep this momentum going and deliver further success in 2015 and beyond.”
